South East Wind

10.7C and back to dull with light rain most of the morning, and occasionally during the afternoon. Light breeze.

After lunch the rain relented for a while so Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk. There was some smir as we were nearing the bottom of the road to the shore but we carried on along the cycle path to get to the beach over the level crossing. In the little field by the level crossing there are some sheep again. They were near the level crossing gate when we arrived at the field gate but quickly moved off further along the field when we walked towards them. The rain was off by the time we got down to the beach.

Down on the beach I noticed three rod and line fishermen out on the rocks. One was just landing a decent sized fish as we walked along the beach towards the fishermen's huts. The tide was going out so the waves weren't rushing in towards them over the rocks as they would have been if the tide was coming in.

The South East wind and high tides seems to have prompted some action beside Tom's creel rack structure. He has stacked new creels and boards where he goes up and down to the beach with Shamara II and on the other side a length of fence made of vertical boards (about 2 1/2 feet high) has been installed. I assume the sea was running up into the grass area in front of the huts and they are trying to prevent the worst of it. A little further along Brian's woven fence is still there protecting the end of his garden, but the sand he had piled up and got dune grass growing in has been flattened to some extent. I'm sure he will be out shovelling sand back up against the seaward end of the fence again soon.

Maeve and I carried on our walk along towards Carnoustie and turned up for home before we reached the golf courses. The rain came back on when we were about quarter of a mile from the house, so we did get wet after all.
