Of Ladies and Lamps

A lady with a lamp shall stand
In the great history of the land,
A noble type of good,
Heroic womanhood.

From Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Santa Filomena

When thinking about a Blip for International Women's Day I could hardly miss this one: Florence Nightingale, also known as The Lady with the Lamp.

Born May 12th 1820, in a time where a woman was to be 'only' a wife and mother, Florence Nightingale laid the foundation for professional nursing. While I never agreed with her about nursing being a 'divine calling', I do owe most of my working life to her and her persistence. Thanks, Ms. Nightingale! It seems only fair that your birthday is celebrated as International Nurses Day :)

I had big plans for this Blip, but woke up in the middle of the night with a screaming earache. Shortly after, my left ear closed shut and I've been feeling horrible ever since. No work, no play today.
I merged two shots together for this; one of a shadow lamp (representing the Lady with the Lamp part) and one of my official ziekenverzorgings (literally: sick people caring) pin.
There's irony somewhere in this Blip.
If I wasn't so sick I'm sure I'd find it.

Fortunately others fared better today: this Blip is awesome.
