Mama said there'd be days like this.............
Somedays no matter what you do life has it's own way of messing up any plan you may have. Oh, let me explain..........
Today we had a gig in Brunswick for the Five River arts show. We were asked to bring a sound system and told to be there at 1200 to load in. We were.
When we got there we were informed that the gentleman singing had started about a half of an hour late. So we would have to wait until he finished. Seriously?
So we hung around for an hour and a half waiting to set up our sound system. Finally the guy before us was coming to a close.......When there is another band waiting to set up, it is common courtesy to move it along. Don't stop to chat and take your time, be courteous to other musicians. It's a small community.
There was a woman coordinating the whole operation. This woman was a masterpiece of micro management. She required us to use the carts to load in our things and to not open the the door, and park them in a certain place and do this, don't do that......she was a bitch. I literally had to walk away from her. I could feel my heartbeat in my throat.
The booth next to where we were going to sing had this really cute book with puppets. I put the guitar down to check one out when the bitch woman who was selling them came over to me and GET this..wagged her finger at me and said "no get it up and out of my booth" I was looking for a cool shower gift and thought this was a cool idea. Not now. Seriously what did she think the guitar was going to do?
We can set up speakers monitors and mics et al pretty quickly. By the time we were able to get in there, we were well into the time for our set. Everything seemed to take a little longer, Dan kept feeling water dripping on his head. ( I have no idea why)
We ended up getting the system up and checked and started our first song..... And a God awful noise blasted us. We had to turn it all off. ........and do the gig acoustically.
All that work for nothing.
Here is the best part: oh and yes I am SO going to hell. While we were singing, people kept crowding into the booth of the mean lady. She just sat in a chair with pursed lips. A young child with amazing digital dexterity ( imagine two lines and that you are reading the words..picking her nose..between them) stood in front of us. She started looking through the woman's book. Her mother did a little cry and tried to wipe off all the "residue". The mean woman almost passed out. it was great
Anyway it was finally over and we started to break down when the maniacal micro manager told us to hurry up, we were holding people up from going home. We rushed and brought everything out to the loading dock. She informed us that they had rules...she was nuts.
So we went to grab a bite to eat and came home. I had coffee with desert. This is why it is 1130 and I am wide awake! I have now watched 5 episodes of the tv show Reign about Mary Queen of Scots. I find her fascinating.
I am going to sign off. So g'day down under and almost a good morning to the north
