WHITING MILL

Built around 1806, this mill, on the shore by the Humber Bridge in Hessle, had five sails and air brakes and was powered by horses.
In 1925 the sails were removed and it was powered by electricity. It was used for grinding down local chalk supplies to be used in road and building construction. The quarry, on the side of the River Humber, finally closed in the 1960’s.
