What could it be?

This is my entry for the "Derelict Thursday" challenge:

This cylinder in its rusty contraption caught my eye some time back, and today with Derelict Thursday looming seemed a good time to blip it. I can't think what it could be, and strangely the rest of the machinery in the farm yard all seems well maintained, but who knows, maybe someone out there knows what it is.
