Rakaia Gorge Walkway

For most of its 150km journey from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean, the Rakaia River is braided, through a wide shingle bed.

But for a short distance it is confined to a canyon, known as the Rakaia Gorge.

The picturesque Rakaia Gorge Walkway follows the northern side of the river. The river's glacial-fed waters are a beautiful ming blue, and you can see glacier-carved and river-carved terraces.

A fun day in the outdoors with my walking buddies.
