Goose Green, Altrincham (The Old & The New)
This area in Altrincham dates back to the 18th century (at least) when there was a wheelwrights shop and a blacksmiths located in the small buildings on the green. Wheelwrights, weavers and market gardeners all lived around this area. Nearby Hale Moss was a place of grazing cattle, horses, donkeys, ducks & geese. There was also a pinfold (a pound for stray animals), cockpit and racecourse nearby. Contrast this with 21st century technology in the shape of the new Altrincham Hospital and no wonder the geese are turning their heads!
