Late Day Light at the Pond

Dear Diary,

The hills around the pond have greyed down and retreated. The trees are stripped of their leaves and only the evergreen trees are adding a hint of color around the pond. This day it was the pond itself that radiated soft and subtle colors. I made this photograph at 4 pm. The days are shortening now as the year slides into its dark time.

The weather has remained quite mild but a big change is coming tomorrow as the infamous "Polar Vortex" slips into New England bringing with it frigid temperatures. A few last things to do today to make sure the house is ready.

Winter Trees
By William Carlos Williams
All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.
