All the colours of war and peace

Poppies come in many shades - red and black and yellow and white. Are any symbols more contested than the symbols of war?

This one is not from the PPU but was crocheted by dogwithnobrain and given to me last year by Ceridwen. Last year I forgot to wear it. This year I was pleased that I remembered, especially as at 11am I was visiting a primary school where the children were being fed the standard propaganda of 'sacrifice'. Interestingly the British Empire was built on the idea of 'sacrifice', while assuming a civilising mission to stamp out human sacrifice in subject/backward populations. An anthropologist friend has written about this very effectively.
