Crusoe Island

I headed to the south with the aim to visit a few islands and coastal towns over the next couple of weeks. I decided to start at Crusoe Island, a tiny and basic set-up on Koh Ta Kiev run by an Australian guy and his Cambodian wife.

The accommodation options are a hammock, a tent or a wall-less bungalow (essentially just a roof and mosquito net). They have electric lights around the main area for only a few hours each night, powered solely by solar panels. If you want to charge your phone you have to get on an exercise bike. To have a shower you have to get water from a well and then pour the cold, slightly muddy water over yourself. Oh and there's obviously no wifi. In summary, it's all very basic but very relaxing and charming.

I arrived at around 4pm and was one of only about 10 guests. We all had the dinner special of a local beef curry and sat around chatting and drinking. It starts getting dark around 6pm, so by 10pm it felt really late.
