Peanut Ring

Nuttier.

My peanut ring has been in an out-of-the-way area of the yard and rarely gets filled. So today I moved it to a more convenient spot and had almost immediate visitors. Within minutes the bluejays found it and a few tufted titmice, but the downy woodpecker was a surprise! I had no idea that they were into peanuts... Unlike the other birds, this one didn't steal a nut and fly off. He pecked the shell, pulverize the peanut and used his tongue to pullout the crumbs all while on the feeder.

I'm looking forward to a sunny day; more light would make catching the action easier. But, I think I"ll have to wait a while, as the weather looks pretty glum for a the rest of the week.
