Rhubarb mumble (and the kindness of strangers)
First of all, thank you for the kind comments on yesterdays blip. It means a lot for something that is so personal to me.
Rhubarb is a radio idiom for unintelligible background speech. Actors would mutter the word over and over to provide ambient sound for a crowd scene. We don't need to hear what the crowd are actually saying - but we can't have silence. So we have " ...rhubarb, rhubarb....." instead.
It’s what we might call rhubarb mumble…..
….. as opposed to rhubard crumble which I am looking forward to sometime next year, assuming this plant survives the winter.
