Restocking the wood shed
Busy all day restocking the wood shed for next winter!
Hopefully a long hot 'barbeque' summer will dry the wood out ready for use. This old sliver birch has been dead a long while in an upright position so is pretty dry anyway. We'd hoped for a solid centre but the hollow centre shows signs of decay. Birch is not such a durable wood as oak.
Its such a satisfying task, physically exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.
it is a great way of being in the moment. Using the chain saw requires 100% concentration and focused attention. Mindfulness in action.
Tomorrow, our new log-splitter comes into its own. It can exert a pressure of 25 tons. Woo hoo! After nearly 40 years of hand splitting wood, this is such a joy for Bill and makes the job a bit easier
Home for tea and a long soak in a hot tub is next on our agenda.
