A view of our roof

We've had a slow leak in a corner of our roof, so slow we weren't even sure it was leaking and hoped it was a one-off event caused by a massive ice-up on the roof one winter. However, eventually we saw it must be leaking and looked around for a builder.
We met this one at the recycling center where he was throwing away some rubble from a job. I mentioned we might have some work and that's how we got started, back in October. Since then they've fixed several small jobs and are now fixing the leaking roof.
We like them because they understand how we think. Another builder said if they took the metal roof off to take a look there was no way it could be put back, and we'd have to have new roofing (which wouldn't match the old). Our guys said they'd take a look, do a fix that would last another 5 years, and replace the same metal roof. Much cheaper than the first builder of course but more importantly following our way of reasoning. Do the necessary and no more!
For those technically minded viewers you can see that part of the problem is that there was no roofing felt under the metal outer roof so when a nail worked loose there was a hole for water to run into, from where it could just drip into the house. Now there will be roofing felt to act as a second waterproof layer, and the roof will be screwed into place, not nailed. In one way not a brilliant way to do a roof but on the other hand it was there for at least 40 years before it leaked.
