one day in France

Remembrance Day

We have a new mayor in the village this year, so we thought we'd introduce ourselves at the Remembrance Service this morning. We assumed 11th hour of 11th day etc, but no, our village service started at 11.45am!
There were letters from soldiers written in 1917 read by some of the village schoolchildren, the reading of all the names on the war memorial, a one minute silence, not two, and the playing of La Marseillaise as well as the European anthem!
Then it was all into the Mairie for a vin d'honneur and a bit of a chat. The mayor was very keen to speak to Mr Frenchtoast when he saw that he is an RAF veteran, and here's a photo of them together.
