Bowood 2014 #44

This was my last visit of the year to the grounds of Bowood as they closed the following day until March 27th 2015, when I will doubtless return. I arrived in the late afternoon for a quick tour of the grounds, starting with the gardens, which still had some colour despite its being November, and looked south towards the lake beyond the grounds that I had visited a couple of days earlier. A long line of Canada geese stretched across the horizon and a horse and some sheep were grazing on the farm on the other side of the lake. They were closing ten minutes early that day so I left at about 1620 hr, but pulled over on the exit road as some deer were grazing nearby, and I got a few shots through the opened passenger window.

While listening to Charlie Gillett's Radio Picks - Honky Tonk Vol. 2 I came across Leroy Van Dyke's original version of this song, from 1961 (a different song to the Bacharach-David song that Dionne Warwick recorded), and was reminded of one of the best concerts I attended at the Paris while I was employed by the BBC. Ronnie Lane had left the Faces and set up his own combo Slim Chance, who were a rollicking great band with little commercial appeal but plenty of genuine musical expression, including this performance of this song.
