Remembering Oom Jack.

Every Remembrance day this couple comes to mind and brings up a tear. Helena Lammers, (my mom's older sister and Jack Van Zuylen were maried April 24'th 1940. They knew they were in omnious times, but who or what can stop the drive of love and desire between two people. Jack was a fighter pilot for the Dutch airforce and when Holland was invaded, he along with his mates were sent up to engage the enemy in the sky so that the Royal Family had time to escape across the channel to England. The Dutch airforce was vastly out numbered and it didn't end well for Jack, he gave his life to his Queen and country. Helena remained a widow all her days, and gave her life to social work. We, her nephews became the object of her affections and love in replacement of the family that she never had.
