Lest we forget

The firemen lined up with the Chief of Police and the Mayor and his colleagues for Remembrance day at the monument for the 1904 Anglo French Entente Cordiale, the only such monument in the world.. About 100 or so villagers attended. There was a short speech and the wreaths were laid. The emphasis in France is very much on the fallen of the First World War although passing reference was made to other conflicts. It is a civil not a religious ceremony as there is a clear separation of Church and State in France. There followed the usual convivial Vin d'Honneur afterwards in the Mairie. There is always a strong sense of community at these events.
