Microcosm

Airports are like microcosms. During a three hour layover I saw many people come and go. Thousands of lives intersecting without much notice of one another. A girl (who turns 21 on the 5th) talked to a stranger about nails, the wedding she was attending, and her excitement about spending her 21st birthday in San Diego. A large church group entertained themselves by playing cards. And while there were lots of kids running, screaming, and crying, I was particularly struck by two well-behaved kids traveling with their mother. The girl seemed quite seriously, but occasionally cracked a smile while reading her Romona book. Her brother used a blanket to create a fortress out of his seat. He asked is mom what if everyone stayed like kids all the time. She didn't really answer, but I think it'd be fun.
