Basket Case

It's pretty uplifting, wandering around an urban area and stumbling upon delicate, colorful knitted wool coverings wrapped around barb-wire fences, bike racks and parking meters. Grand Rapids has a group of yarn bombers that pick the most drab spots throughout the city for a splash of vibrant yarn wrap. The woven yarn invites that tactile, crafty feel back into the gray and metallic landscape.

I guess this tree basket public art is along the same vein. Intricate reed weaves intertwined at the base of this trunk provide another subtle intervention in the urban landscape. It's impossible to make a tree more beautiful than it already is. But this little piece of random art makes you smile.
