Mono Monday - Dialogue

Today is significant for Turkish people, for it is the day when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk "Father of the Nation" and first president of the new Republic of Turkey, passed away in 1938 at 9.05am. (Also see one year ago) Today's serious but not necessarily sombre commemorative ceremony acknowledged the life and impact of this interesting, charismatic leader. I have quoted his words several times in this journal. An articulate and passionate orator, he was also fond of music and today's ceremony involved my Turkish music teacher colleagues (as mentioned last week) performing six of Ataturk's favourite songs with a different (Turkish) teacher singing each one!! I sat in the balcony of the theatre and took 70+ photos near and far with my lovely super zoom FZ200, showing the splendour of the occasion and yet, in the end I have chosen for my journal this fleeting moment between teacher and student (she is playing bendir - a kind of drum) with Deniz playing quite a few (unrehearsed) 'extra' notes - as is his habit as a jazz musician and love of mischief - which probably explains his smile and her consternation!! A fleeting moment frozen as only the camera can do......
