Peterhouse Black
We're in Cambridge this week (I know, confusing, isn't it!) and this is part of the roof of Peterhouse college where A is working this term. Peterhouse is the oldest college in Cambridge, and the inspiration for Tom Sharpe's satirical 1974 novel, Porterhouse Blue.
Today my education in English place names continued as I discovered that the fun-sounding town of 'Toaster' - which I've often heard mentioned on radio travel updates - is actually Towcester! Feelings of general ignorance mitigated by Milngavie, Strathaven, Achiltibuie....
Reading: Finished Brian Friel's Translations and considering my next move. Suggestions welcome.
