To Hilo today

Today we took a trip around the top of the the Big Island to get to Hilo. We stopped at as many places as we could find for fabulous photos.

My husband really is a love to stop constantly...even when I'm not particularly interested. He gets real excited and stops anyways. Some of my best shots come from those stops.

We checked out Waipi'o Valley, which was absolutely gorgeous. Then we headed on to check out Akaka Falls (which was closed unfortunately) and Rainbow Falls. My photos from Rainbow falls would have been fantastic if it hadn't been literally pouring buckets of rain from the sky.

We decided to dare the drive over Saddle Road towards the Mauna Kea observatory and then back down to Kona. There was lava everywhere! We plan on doing the active volcano tomorrow plus some snorkeling.

This shot is when we were driving home and came over the mountain. The clouds were incredible throughout the mountain drive. At some points we had gotten above the cloud line and then would go back down below it.

I took this going about 55-60 mph on the highway, but I really liked the cloud formation and the leaning tree.
