Tiptoe through the Wild Thyme

13 of us went to Bannockburn, then walked through the old gold mining tailings to Stewart Town, where there are remains of a few old stone cottages.  Still fruiting are several pear and plum trees, but not ready to be eaten.

After lunch we continued around the loop track, then headed back to Wanaka, and a nice refreshing drink at a local café.

This photo is of the walkers heading up the hill.  The track is  surrounded by the wild thyme, which was brought into the area by the Chinese miners about 150 years ago.  It is still doing remarkably well seeing there isn't much water in the area.  The sun didn't shine, so the lighting wasn't too good.

Speaking of water, it did rain as we set off from Stewart Town, but stopped after we had walked for about 10 minutes.  It was a super day out with my walking friends.
