fazioli

"As he [Paolo Fazioli] closed the fall board, it squeaked almost imperceptibly. He raised his hand and motioned for quiet, as if he were listening for a mouse, and then he opened and closed the fall board three times in rapid succession. Each time the faintest squeak broke the nervous silence, and his features became a study in disappointment. He called over one of the workmen, repeated the offending gesture and gave him a look of reproof that was more damning than any specific accusation. 'Remember, it's shipping tomorrow,' I heard him say agitatedly in Italian, and we left the room where four of these rare pianos, almost as many as leave the factory in a month, awaited their squeakless destiny."
