Fireworks eve in the village. Not just a locals event this year - far more people than there has ever been. All roads into the village lined with cars and the village "square" and bank of the river bursting with people. As usual the exclamations from the crowd was amusing in itself. Group of men behind us sounded like Cornish pirates in their "Oohs" and "Ahhs"!
Once the main spectacular show which was let off on the opposite bank in front of the dairy farm ( often wonder what they do with the cows!) was over it was little groups lighting sparklers and queues at the Hog Roast in front of the social club. In the village hall a friend involved with the refugees in plymouth had organised games and refreshments - about 30 of them came on the train from Plymouth. They come down once a week to play Table Tennis.
Once the food had been eaten and the sparklers finished, the visitors from neighbouring villages left and we began to meet friends that previously had been lost in the crowd. We gathered on the benches to chat and we shared my mulled wine from a flask from my dads recipe of generous glugs of brandy, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and orange juice. 2 cups were passed round the group till everyone began to feel quite mellow!
A friend who refurbishes Airstreams asked me to take some photos of his latest beauty ready for being put on the market - he'll take it down to Morwellham quay and I'll have fun trying to do it justice! He's going to take some fairy lights so come dusk it will get even more exciting!
We finally walked back up the hill, past the Arts Chapel where Neil Innes was doing his show "The Art of Hopelessness" - I guess they had an interval during the fireworks!
