Lens testing, and alas it's not the User. The top left of the frame isn't brilliant, but the right side is very soft compared with the centre. Am a bit scunnered about this lens being like this, and have decided to get rid of all my remaining Nikon 1 bits and pieces - this camera, and the 30-110mm zoom. Wouldn't attempt to sell this dodgy lens to someone, and am glad it wasn't an expensive one. A shame, as the camera's small, light and can be totally silent in operation. And with this teeny lens, should be ideal for street stuff. Have enjoyed using it in monochrome mode, as you see what the finished picture is going to like in the viewfinder. Just have never been enamoured with the quality of the camera's files - noisy, particularly in grey sky areas (a common feature of living in Scotland!) at even the lowest ISO... though that's hidden in monochrome mode. Dynamic/exposure range is distinctly limited. And despite Nikon adding loads more pixels to the newer versions, the overall output quality hasn't improved at all - Sony's same sized sensor in its RX100 series is far superior (except for autofocus).
Will look into getting something small and discrete, with an electronic viewfinder and larger sensor, sometime in the future. More bulky DSLR for most Blipping for the next while, with the occasional SLR, or other film camera. I don't do mobile/cell phones...
