Bridge Under Troubled Clouds

In the evening I joined my sister, my cousin, and a couple of friends on the pier to watch the moonrise. Instead we were treated to a sky-full of turbulent clouds: no visible moon, no twinkling stars. Only clouds and the lighted Biloxi/Ocean Springs bridge that was built after Hurricane Katrina to replace the destroyed one.

For compensation we had one another: five elderly yet youthful woman...nibbling bread, cheese and olives...wine glasses held in chilly fingers. A cold front was rushing in with the clouds, and we huddled closer...not being prepared for the chill after humid warmth all the day long. I handed brownies around, my offering, and enjoyed the responses of women with chocolate on their tongues. Small talk is sweet with those you know well.
