Inside Westfield

During our time in the editing suite last night we were chatting about what it is that makes people buy things, also the differences between the sexes when it come to shopping. Women, apparently like to browse and are more likely to make impulse purchases, whereas men are more goal oriented, seeking out the right shop and heading straight there.

The first few times I went to Westfield Shepherds Bush I came out screaming, because it's designed to confuse you. there is no overhead signage and you are reliant on interactive maps positioned sporadically around the store.

For a while shopping there was so frustrating I didn't even bother, just using the car park as a useful stopover for the BBC.

Now I know how to get to where I want to be it's a lot easier.

I rarely take pictures inside, mainly because I know I will be approached by a security guard. Today I was up for it and although I was snapping discreetly it took only 10 minutes for said fellow to approach.

"Hello, do you have a press pass?", he asked. I replied and produced my NUJ card. "Oh! national press" he said sounding surprised. We had a brief chat about what I was snapping and where I'd been shopping, then went away. I got the impression that had I not actually been to a shop before taking these pictures, he would have found an objection to raise.

As it was, all cool.

I'm unlikely to be taking any more pictures there as, to be honest, I don't really like it much.
