The classic opening line from James Ellroy, author of LA Confidential and many other fine books, who we went to see speak tonight.

It was a blast.

Signing a book for me afterwards, he said he was happy to write my suggested dedication - 'Read this and know L.A.' - I suspect because it appealed to his self-confessed benign megalomania.

My blip is the venue, the church to books that is the Mitchell Library, in night time noir.

Afterwards, dinner at the excellent Hanoi Bike Shop. Ending with my first taste of Vietnamese coffee, stir to release the condensed milk at the bottom. The sugar and caffeine probably explains the lengthy write up here.
