Mural in homage to Rita Angus

Yesterday, Young L was booked to go on an art "field trip " with his school class. He fell over while running in the school grounds, and sprained his right wrist. Not only did he need to be taken by Granny to see the doctor (to exclude a fracture), the pain meant he would not have been able to take part in the activities on the art trip. He was badly disappointed at missing the trip. The pain of his wrist was as of nothing compared to that disappointment.

So (after getting the all clear from the GP) Granny took him on his own art trip; to Gordon Harris in Newmarket. A large art supplies store. To get him his own selection of paints, paper and whatever. It served to dull the disappointment, and tonight he did some rather neat paintings (wrist being so much better).

When S parked the car in the Gordon Harris car park, she saw this large mural and today she told me about it. That it was very colourful, and I might like to blip it. Although Newmarket is about the limit of to where I would run these days after work, I took myself there, and got this photo.

Rita Angus was one of New Zealand's favourite and best regarded artists. This mural in homage was created by Street Artist Jonny 4Higher. I have blipped some of his work before. He collaborated with his friend Jacob Chrisohoou in this work, which references two of Angus' most popular works; Rutu and Cass. As can be seen in the lower right corner, the artist was sponsored by Gordon Harris, The Estate of Rita Angus, and art supplies producer Molotow.
