"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
—Roger Caras (photographer and writer)
I was without a dog for many years. After I lost Casey, I hurt so much that I told myself that I just couldn't go through the pain of losing a dog again.
I was stupid. :)
Maybe cowardly is a better description - harsh but still true.
I lost so much by not embracing the entire journey of life, including the pain.
I still have no clue what changed but one day I woke up and I knew that I needed a dog again.
Within a week we rescued Boone and he rescued us.
He guilts us into walks when we don't feel like walking. He makes us laugh.
Life is so much better with Boone.
And I have learned my lesson.
Which I will likely need to learn again in a different way...
