Essex- Ethiopia- Dorset

Visited Greensted church Essex. It is the oldest wooden Church in the World and the oldest wooden building standing in Europe . People have worshipped here continuously for 1300 years .!!
Inside was this embroidered picture of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples made by the people of St Margaret's Mission in Tigre Ethiopia and presented as a thank you in 1991. I love this story and I thought the picture added a new dimension.

There is a connection with Dorsetmen - In 1837 ,when the Tolpuddle martyrs had their sentences in Australia commuted , they were unable to return home due to the opposition of Dorset farmers but were granted farm tenancies in Greensted .
Sadly they encountered more local opposition and emigrated to Canada .
