View from a woodland burial

I believe this is my 100th Blip. I had planned the usual 100 in the form of vertical and round cactus plants. But events of the day led to a change of plan.

Today we went to a funeral. At our age that is not unusual, but this one was different. It was the first time we had been to a Woodland Burial. Our friend had chosen to be buried in a Willow coffin at a woodland burial site in the Yorkshire Dales.

The picture shows the view from about 100 yards down hill from the site of his grave. The mountain is Ingleborough - incidentally the first hill I ever climbed. My friend had chosen this plot some time ago. It was so appropriate. For 25 years after his retirement he had given thousands of hours to rebuilding and repairing the dry stone walls which give our area such character and beauty. Now he lay with a dry stone wall just a few yards from his head and with this view forever in front of him.

The sun shone and some moving words were said.

Usually these occasions take place in a crematorium some ten miles from our village. Today's events have given me much to think about.
