Redwoods
Saw some striking light falling between these majestic Redwood trees this morning. Had to stop and snap some shots - had a strong feeling at the time this would be my blip :)
Adding some comments as I had to run when I first posted this.
Sequoia Sempervirens - the Coast Redwood Tree is the tallest tree in the world - several specimens having been cataloged at over 100m (330 ft). They are fire-proof and insect-proof and some have lived for over 2,200 years. These trees are only found along the West coast of North America along a 750km narrow strip of land - they thrive off the coastal fog from which they draw 30% of their water as they are so tall that they cannot feed entirely off their root system.
They typically grow in rings where their roots intertwine so as to give each other support. If you have never seen one of these trees you are missing out imo on the most majestic and beautiful tree on this planet.
They are truly a sight to see and these little ones can't convey the incredible size and grandeur of the few old growth trees that remain. I feel so fortunate to live among these trees - I never grow tired of their majesty nor does my awe of them ever diminish - even being surrounded by them at my home.
