Amelia
Amelia is a corn snake and is over 5ft! Taller than me!
Today after 2 weeks of dulled brown scales and inactivity, she shed her skin. This meant she was hungry so one frozen mouse was defrosted and popped in her vivarium! You can just see the mouses tail sticking out of her mouth! I didn't want the first blip of Amelia to be too scary by showing her as she swallowed it! You can also see her shedded skin under the branch and her body, it is soft when she first sheds it, but as it dries it goes papery.
Amelia was given to me when she was 12 years old by a work colleague. Her son had saved his pocket money and bought her when she was a young, small thing! The son grew up, left home, and left Amelia! Only she wasn't called Amelia then! It did live with his sister for a while, but it returned to the familial home and was brought into school to show the children. Which was when they said they were looking for a new home for her. I have always loved snakes, and held a boa constrictor in Sri Lanka when my love was sealed! I don't think I would ever have bought one, as I feel uncomfortable with animals held in captivity, but since this one needed a home I gave it mine!
She has grown 2 ft since being with me, as she was being fed small mice and I was advised this was too small for her needs, so she now eats extra large!! She came with lumps which the vet said was nothing to worry about, but as she has grown so have they so she bulges at certain points along her body!
Amelia likes to come out and explore, but will settle under the sofa in a compact coil, I then have to pull her out and return her to the warmth of the vivarium!
