Constuction In Aluminium 1967
This sculpture is outside the Cambridge University Department of Engineering, where Sir Frank Whittle, OM, KBE, CB, FRS, 1907-1996, pursued the development of his jet engine. This construction is in aluminium on a Portland stone base, by Kenneth Martin (1905-1984) and represents a formula for a helical screw propeller. He was an English painter and sculptor, who, together with his wife Mary and Victor Pasmore, was a leading figure in the revival of Constructivism in the 1940's. His work has also been exhibited in Kettle's Yard, Cambridge.
