The Knitter's Dilemma

I knitted a hat this morning. The pattern suggested that I would need two balls of yarn. It took one.

Just.

So now I haven't enough yarn left on the first ball to sew up the hat. I will have to break into the second meaning I can't exchange it and rendering it useless unless I knit a smaller hat for someone else...

I know there are worse things happening in the world but it is really annoying.
