Cup Upset
Second cup-tie of the week. This time went along the road with my friend T to see Spartans FC host Clyde in the Third Round of the Scottish Cup. Spartans play in the Lowland Football League, which is just one level below the Scottish League Two where Clyde currently play so there wasn't much between the teams on paper, even if Spartans are non-league. In fact you could say there are just six places between them, with Clyde sixth (out of ten) in their division and Spartans currently second top in their league.
We chose to stand along the touchline, as close as we could get to T's regular position in line with the edge of the Clyde penalty box. The crowd was significantly up on the usual - 611 apparently, according to the BBC match report. Spartans won with a penalty in each half, both the result of slightly rash, and unnecessary, challenges by Clyde defenders. Spartans had a man sent off for dissent just before the end but it didn't affect the result. So they are through to the next round - I wonder who they'll get when they are in the pot with the big teams?
