In search of the Golden Chestnut

The last time we were all in Italy, we went to a chestnut festival on our last night. Chestnuts roasted in a drum over an open fire, there was potent sherry, live music and dancing, and I vaguely remember the evening being a lot of fun.

We were going to drive 5 hours to get to that same festival today but used the hotel's free WiFi and discovered that there was a Golden Chestnut festival in the mountains south of Turin.

As soon as Squizz heard mention of a Golden Chestnut, all thoughts of the other festival were forgotten and we headed to Frabosa Sottana in the mountains south of Turin instead.

Sadly, we didn't find him a golden chestnut - I think it's the prize they award during the festival for the best chestnuts - but we did find stalls with local produce, such as cheeses, sausage and mushrooms, and all kinds of nutty cakes and biscuits and chocolates. We bought some of the biscuits and chocolates and chestnut cake to take away with us, and then we bought a bag of roast chestnuts each from these guys and ate them with the gloopiest hot chocolate ever.
