Charles Emmerson gave a very interesting talk tonight at the Faclan Book Festival on his book 1913, The World Before the Great War.

His thesis was that we have been influenced by 1960s thinking that war was inevitable, but the optimism and hope of countries world-wide in 1913 was not impending doom and gloom.
