I went to the X Games bmx big air competition at the Staples Center tonight. Wasn't nearly close enough to get any action shots, but the whole setup was impressive. the big air ramp filled the place wall to wall, with probably a 100 or 150 foot ramp, a jump over a 70 foot gap (can't see from this angle) to the other side, ending in a 30 foot quarter pipe in which riders got an additional 20 feet of air out of. Best trick of the night was a no-handed tailwhip backflip over the large gap to a no-handed flair (4 stories in the air!) on the quarter pipe. It was a lot of fun to watch. But nothing quite as dramatic as this - watch the whole video. it almost made me cry.
