"Green Buoy"

Taken half an hour before sunset, a dreich day in Scotland although temperature was around 16 degrees C.

This green buoy (on land obviously!) is at the road entrance to Largs Yacht Haven and is inscribed "Trinity House No 3020 London"

2014 is the 500th anniversary of the establishment of The Corporation of Trinity House. For five centuries the safety of shipping, and the well being of seafarers, have been the organisation’s prime concerns ever since the Royal Charter was granted by Henry VIII. Today it has three distinct functions: lighthouse service, a self-funded charity and a deep sea pilotage authority.

In the background you can see the Largs Needle, (the pencil) a monument to commemorate the
Battle of Largs (2 October 1263) which was an indecisive engagement between the kingdoms of Norway and Scotland near Largs, Scotland.
