Travelling companions

Even "friends" will ignore each other, these days, and spend time looking at their mobile phones, but when you find yourself sitting next to a stranger on the train the phone can provide an excuse to avoid striking up a polite conversation.

I was rather amused by the guy nearer the window who was texting on his Blackberry, which was sitting on top of his iPad, which was sitting on top of his Macbook. So much for the modern single, multi-purpose device!
