Ribblehead viaduct - Yorkshire Dales

A mad dash for the moors today. Windy but still warm we walked the Whernside ridge - walking anticlockwise seems to be the least popular route, but we could smile at all the multitude of others walking the other way round and having to battle headlong into the wind.
I think all the guide books show the walk anticlockwise to get you up the easy slope, but I would sooner go up the steep side, especially when it is damp and slippery.

Bleak but scenic - this marvellous bit of Victorian engineering towed over the valley. Watch out though - the sign on it reads "Beware Falling Masonry - the limestone used in the construction of the viaduct has a natural tendency to flake. There is a continued risk of falling masonry. Please take care when walking at the foot of the viaduct." - maybe they should add "Don't hang about when there is a train passing overhead".
