Standing In The Light
Francis Howgill (1618 - 1669), describing the sense of communion engendered among the early Quakers, said: 'We came to know a place to stand in and what to wait in.' Today I am standing in The Light, the name which has been given to the Large Meeting Room at Friends House following its renovation. The final piece of work to be completed will be the installation of a skylight in the centre of the ceiling, allowing natural light to flood into the room.
I think the vision behind all this is one which those early Quakers would have readily understood.
