Upstairs Downstairs

My friend and I visited Lanhydrock, Cornwall today - the most amazing National Trust property. The rooms are so full of detail, as if the occupants have just left the room. The estate dates from the 16C but the house is Victorian after a fire destroyed the Jacobean one. There are so many specialist rooms including extensive Nurseries and servants rooms, and the kitchens are the most extensive I have ever seen with the main kitchen having state of the art Victorian gadgetry including chimney operated spit and hot water, with specialist bread, meat, fish, dairy, ice, dry and bottled provisions rooms. The kitchen catered for the family of 10 and the 80 house and estate staff!!The Long gallery has a ceiling of plasterwork detailing the christian religion from Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden!! The views from the windows were equally inspiring and reminded me of the Peter Greenaway film The Draughtman's Contract which was set in Jacobean times.
Only downside was the fact it was teeming with children!

So many things to practise my photography upon including the trees in the mist! The staircase I photographed from every angle, and the steps were worn down significantly in the centre from all the toings and froings of the servants!!!I will be visiting by myself outside of school holidays in the future! Ended the day at The springer Spaniel owned by Masterchef winner 2012 Anton Piotrowski, his other place is the Treby Arms in Sparkwell which has a Michelin star!

What a brilliant day despite the mist and in the evening dense fog!!
