13 bob

The day didn't start well when, as I was about to get into the shower, I realised that there was still a hire car outside which had to be returned. Immediately. So I had to throw on some clothes and head out to the hire office in the pouring rain before the car turned into a pumpkin.

Spent most of the rest of the day producing a first draft of a piece of assessment that was due in last Friday - but since I hadn't been asked for it until Thursday I did pretty well to send it off today, I thought.

On my way back from the car place I remembered that we were out of stamps and called in at the newsagents for some. That was a clever thing the Royal Mail did, changing the stamps to read just "1st" or "2nd" instead of showing the actual price. I stopped to divide the cost of this booklet by 12 and was startled to find that it now costs a whole 65 pence to post a standard envelope 1st class. That's 13/- in old money!
