Dozynki
Dozynki means harvest festival. Never mind that it is springtime and nothing is harvested, Polish community has a day of Polish food, beer, folk dancing and general entertainment. It happens only every second year and two years ago we just arrived back from Poland, so we were not only overfed on pierogi, but also severely jet-lagged.
It was a good day. Everybody got what they wanted. Well, I didn't get any cheesecake, it was all gone by the time I was ready to have a piece. But I bought some Polish books and Mr H got a pile of Polish records. Hanna and her half Polish friend had pierogi. They also went into the petting zoo, where Hanna got bitten by a cute piglet. We watched some folk dancing and generally wandered around looking at so many Poles gathered in one place so far away from home. The weather was weird, it was threatening to rain and luckily it came down later at night, together with some really scary thunders and lightenings.
