Autumn Musk Mallow, Manar, Aberdeenshire
After discovering the late-flowering Meadowsweet a couple of days ago, today we came across another late autumn 'survivor' - a solitary Musk Mallow (Malva moschata), flowering beside the road at Manar very close to where the work on the pylons took place earlier this year.
The pale, almost white petals, combined with the pink of the reproductive organs, suggests to me that this plant is a hybrid between the species and the wholly white-flowered f.alba.
